The body of Canon EOS 5D is built solidly though it’s compact and plasticky. On the operation, Canon EOS 5D is extremely quiet. Compared to any modern film body, EOS 5D is quieter and slightly more muted but it’s noisier than a point-and-shoot digital camera.

The Canon EOS 5D is slightly bigger than its brother, Canon EOS 20D, and has larger viewfinder. With a more non-curved body, Canon EOS 5D has very comfortable grip. The big asset of this camera, the big full-frame viewfinder, displays about 96 percent of what is recorded on the sensor. The EOS 5D has also USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface for fast downloads and compatibility to Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E1.

Canon EOS 5D – Performance

The Canon EOS 5D uses Canon’s latest CMOS sensor features 12.8-megapixel resolution that eliminates fixed-pattern noise and suppresses random noise for extremely clean and high-fidelity images. The ISO is 100-1600 wide with extendable speed range to L:50 and H:3200.

The feature of Full Frame sensor produces a beautiful background blur and show depth-of-field, besides the full capabilities of all EF lenses. Canon EOS 5D is improved on the New Picture Style presets and developed 9-point auto focus system that improves the camera’s subject tracking performance automatically. Canon EOS 5D also has new Mode Dial, helps the photographer to switch between two completely different camera set-ups quickly without having to switch bodies.

The EOS 5D is on sale with bundled EOS Digital Solution Disk v11, with Canon’s Digital Photo Professional (DPP) RAW processing software included.

Canon EOS 5D – Pros and cons

Both the advantages and disadvantage of having Canon EOS 5D resulted from the presence of a digital sensor which is the same size as a frame of 35mm film. Canon EOS 5D will get higher image quality, especially in lower light situations and the use of very wide angle lenses ability.

The only disadvantage is that Canon EOS 5D might not able to bite the smaller-sensor camera that increases the magnification of telephoto lenses effectively. The increasing of the magnification can be useful on sports or bird photography. However, the fact that the Canon EOS 5D doesn’t have a built-in flash might add the disadvantage.

Canon EOS 5D – Conclusion

With the fairly price, Canon EOS 5D has excellent image quality with 12.8 megapixels of Canon CMOS resolution. It’s the full-frame Digital SLR available which is lightest and smallest in the class.

Whether you are professionals or advanced amateurs but need wide angle field of view, shallow depth of field, and very high image quality with no high weather/dust sealing, durability or continuous frame rate, the Canon EOS 5D might suit your need. The Canon EOS 5D represents both high performance and a great value in a high quality of high resolution images producing.
